I’ve started to do some engraving on slate coasters. So far, using the IR part of my Xtool F1 Ultra I’m impressed with the ease and quality of the engravings. Took a little bit to get the settings where I wanted them to be but once that was done it was/is a piece of cake.

Depth Maps Created, Laser engraving heaven
I have to admit it, I’m in love with creating and engraving depth maps. With all of the available software now online creating depth maps is no longer such a daunting task. Here are just a few of my most recent depth map creations.

I Pulled The Trigger On The New Xtool F1 Ultra
After weeks of serious deliberation and a fair amount of hesitation I finally pulled the trigger on the new Xtool. F1Ultra dual laser machine.
The F1 Ultra is a laser that ticked all of my requirements such as being not only a 20 watt blue light diode laser it is also a 20 Watt fiber laser. All of this is contained in one 32.6 pound unit that comfortably fits on a desk top, is light enough to be mobile and is so well built that I doubt I’ll ever have any problems with it at all.
I’ll be posting far more about this great new laser as time goes by. It should arrive within the next week and when it does I’ll be testing, retesting and testing again everything that it can do. I’m excited and will share my laser engraving/cutting journey with you as time goes by.
One of the best features of this new laser is that it can do embossing using either your photographs or it will generate depth map images through its AI program. Either way you can create 256 layers of depth on challenge coins, all sorts of different metals and even wood.
Here are some examples of depth maps that I’ve already created that I’ll be testing with. Should be a real hoot!
If you’re interested in seeing what this great machine can do here’s a YouTube post that I think you’ll enjoy.

Small business start-ups: Mistakes that will make you fail before you ever get started
E-commerce Mistakes New Small Business Owners Make
Launching a new e-commerce business can feel like prospecting for gold—exciting, filled with potential, and a bit daunting. But what happens if you're digging in all the wrong places? Many small business owners fall into this trap when they start selling online, focusing their efforts where they shouldn't and missing out on a treasure trove of opportunities. Let's explore some common mistakes and how to avoid them, especially when it comes to understanding who your real customers should be.
Mistake #1: Selling to the Wrong Audience
One of the biggest mistakes new e-commerce entrepreneurs make is trying to sell directly to other small business owners. While it might seem logical—after all, small businesses understand each other, right?—this approach can often lead to disappointing results. Small business owners are typically looking to keep costs low and are highly selective about the products and services they invest in. This means you're facing a tough crowd with tight budgets.
The Right Audience: Manufacturers and Tool Providers
Instead, consider shifting your focus to manufacturers and companies that provide the tools small business owners need. These entities have more substantial budgets and a greater need for innovative solutions that can help them streamline their operations or offer new services to their customers. By positioning your products or services as essential tools for these companies, you can tap into a more lucrative market.
Mistake #2: Neglecting Market Research
Another pitfall is diving into sales without thorough market research. You wouldn't start digging for gold without a map, right? The same goes for launching an e-commerce business. Understanding your market is crucial. This means identifying not just who might buy your product, but also who benefits most from what you offer.
Conducting Effective Market Research
Start by asking yourself: Who are the key players in my industry? What tools do they use? What challenges do they face that my product can solve? Engage with industry forums, attend trade shows, and network with potential business clients. Gather data on their purchasing habits, preferences, and pain points. This information is invaluable and will guide your marketing efforts.
Mistake #3: Overlooking the Value of B2B Relationships
Many new e-commerce businesses focus on one-time sales rather than building long-term relationships. When you target manufacturers and tool providers, your goal should be to establish lasting partnerships. These companies are looking for reliable suppliers and service providers who can offer consistent value over time.
Building B2B Relationships
To build these relationships, ensure your business offers exceptional customer service and high-quality products. Provide tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of your B2B clients. This might include bulk purchasing options, customized products, or dedicated account management. By demonstrating your commitment to their success, you can secure repeat business and referrals.
Mistake #4: Underestimating the Importance of Branding
In the rush to launch, some small business owners skimp on branding. However, your brand is your business's identity and can set you apart in a crowded market. This is especially true when selling to manufacturers and tool providers who are looking for professionalism and reliability.
Investing in Strong Branding
Develop a cohesive brand that reflects your business values and appeals to your target audience. This includes a professional website, a strong social media presence, and consistent messaging across all platforms. High-quality branding can make a significant difference in how your business is perceived and can help establish trust with potential clients.
Digging in the Right Place
Launching a successful e-commerce business is about more than just having a great product. It's about understanding your market, targeting the right audience, and building strong, lasting relationships. By avoiding these common mistakes and focusing your efforts on manufacturers and tool providers, you'll be digging for gold in all the right places. So grab your shovel, do your research, and get ready to strike it rich!
Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences in the comments below. Let's dig for gold together and turn our e-commerce dreams into reality!
Failure Is NOT and option.
Today I was researching small business owner types and learned that there are basically two types of owners. So, I thought I’d just create a short video that explains what I’ve found. I hope you enjoy it.
